Our Story

We are a nonprofit, donation-based organization that strives to foster and promote the history of Broomfield, to interpret Broomfield’s story within a larger context and to enrich community identity.

The Broomfield Historical Society was formed in 1976 as part of a community effort to save the historic Broomfield railroad depot from being demolished by the Union Pacific Railroad. The local Jaycees group paid $1 for the building and moved it to an empty field north of the tracks. That field later became Zang Spur Park.

The Broomfield Historical Society has been known by different names over the years, including “Friends of the Depot Museum” and “Friends of Broomfield History,” as our mission has expanded to meet the needs of the community.

We foster Broomfield’s history through educational programs and activities, publications, community engagement and support for the historic Broomfield Depot Museum.
