SUMMARY:Our Broomfield and Crescent Grange 2026 History Lecture Series: Broomfield’s Beginnings
DESCRIPTION:EVENT: January 20\, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Crescent Grange 2026 kicks of Colorado’s 150th anniversary celebration\, its sesquicentennial\, coinciding with America’s 250th (semi sesquicentennial) celebration. \nOn top of that\, it is the 65th Anniversary of the City of Broomfield and the 25th for Broomfield County! A series of related local events is planned for the full year\, and as part of that\, we are excited to reprise the Our Broomfield History Lecture Series produced in partnership with the Crescent Grange. \nHave you wondered about how Broomfield came to be? The Broomfield History Speaker Series presented by Our Broomfield Magazine and the Crescent Grange will dive into numerous aspects of our community and tell the stories of the creation of Broomfield. \nThe 2026 series kicks off on January 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Crescent Grange with an introductory presentation about the beginnings of Broomfield and the Crescent Grange. Join Our Broomfield Editor and Publisher Tina Eichner\, Broomfield Museum Coordinator David Allison\, and Crescent Grange President Barbara Gehring for an evening of storytelling about the early days of Broomfield. \nThe speaker series format will be a one-hour live\, in-person topical presentation with a local “expert” or panel aligned with the topic of the day\, interviewed by a moderator. Each program will include 30 minutes for audience Q&A and 30 minutes for light refreshments and socializing/networking. For more information visit: https://www.crescentgrange.org/. \n  \nFLYER LINK

SUMMARY:The Story of Wottge Open Space
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Broomfield Public Library\, 3 Community Park Rd.\, Broomfield\, in the Eisenhower Room\, for a fascinating presentation by Fred Martin on Wottge Open Space! \nThe 62-acre Wottge Open Space in Broomfield\, once the Wottge family farm\, has a rich \, centuries-old history behind how this Broomfield resource came to be. \nFor over 200 years the Wottges owned and operated a family farm in Germany. World War II drew the family patriarch into war and divested the family of the farm when Stalin partitionedEast Germany to Poland. This started the family’s migration through world history to Broomfield. \nAt the end of World War II\, following the horrific crimes of Nazi Germany\, the mass expulsion of ethnic Germans from homelands annexed to Poland has often been overlooked by historians.  The Wottge family lived this history. After enduring the final months of war combat\, the confiscation of their farm\, and the hardships of post-war Germany\, the family made the crossing to America with the help of Catholic War Relief Services. They arrived as immigrant farm laborers in Colorado in 1952. \nThe slideshow presentation includes many historic photos\, maps and documents that make this heroic story come alive. \n  \nThe presentation is by Fred Martin who has presented history programs for the Broomfield Veterans Museum\, the National Museum of World War II Aviation in Colorado Springs\, and many other civic and community groups.
